Crazy White Man Alert! (Or, More Things People of Color Can’t Get Away With…)

Hello, my name is Phil Davison. I’m running for office and I live in a van down by the river.

Um, yeah, if by ‘live,’ you mean, cook up your meth there…Ok, Ok, he didn’t say that, about the meth, or the van, or the river, but he perfectly channels the Chris Farley character who did…

Even in the pantheon of crazy ass white men in politics, this guy takes the cake. Any black guy does this, he’s shot dead by the end of the first 60 seconds…or at least tasered. I’m really hoping this is a prank being played by a comedic genius. Otherwise, I’m a little scared…

  2. YES! Chris Farley’s “motivational speaker” guy is also what I immediately thought of when I saw this clip on the tee-vee box tonight. I don’t think anyone else referenced it, so I was worried I might be too much of a codger by remembering it. I just kept waiting for him to bellyflop and crush the podium.

  6. I kind of feel sorry for this guy. As a teacher, I think I recognize a person with “high functioning” Asperger’s syndrome. I don’t think it is a hoax or that he is crazy, just over focused on being a Republican.

James, you may be right; I’d never thought of that, though I am also a teacher and a parent of a young adult with high-functioning Autism.

He does admit to not being tech-savvy, though, and in my world that’s nearly a prerequisite to having Asperger’s/Autism.

That last part was partially tongue-in-cheek.

  9. Heck for that matter, a left winger has a hard time with it. Howard Dean made one scream & that’s all he wrote… lol

  10. Frightening really. Beyond passionate, bordering mental health issues. Glad he’s not my boss.

  11. The most shocking thing here is that people applauding after that.

  12. I think we can add one good (and crazy) Pastor Terry Jones to the growing list. And speaking of crazy preachers… Rev. John Hagee resurfaced during Glenn Beck’s DC rally which the media more or less treated as a legitimate, ‘mainstream’, reputable event.

  13. Its clips like these that make me think that maybe they should require a drug test and an IQ test before running for public office.

  14. Tim,

I got a little scared too. I live approximately 30 minutes from a Stark County….and then he said Ohio….WHEW!

  15. There is hope for me, not to late for this old fart. What was the name of those colleges ( and his physiciam) cause I wanted to get a Phd or someting before I die. The doc’s number would be helpful for a pre-educatin physical.Wasn’t it that guy from Mass said all politics is local…Barney Frank? or the other one?.

  16. I suppose this guy’s got a lot of guns, too…

  17. You’re right… If a man of color, particularly a black man, would have stood up and acted this way, some kind of security would have taken place. If they hadn’t called for SWAT from the beginning, by the time he got to the phase “guns drawn” that brother would have been tost!

What’s to me is that this guy is made from the same angered attitude that we are seeing outside of Obama speeches, at Tea Party rallies and Glenn Beck/Sarah Palin events.

He is a product of “0 sum” thinking and the “othering” attack they keep using to imply someone (people of color) stole something from them.

Welcome to your very own “law of diminishing returns”. 2040 is coming and we had ALL better learn to share and get along.

  18. Whew. I just googled. He did not get the nomination.

  19. even though i saw the lead in on TRMS and thought i would view it as an over done comic routine, i ended up being afraid. Not for myself, but for The Country. At some point an insane stupidity became the new normal to be exploited by The GOP for political gain. It did not start with The Tea-Baggers, their rise, to me, just heralded the moment things got completely out of control. And if i recall correctly, that moment was when Republican Candidate for President John McCain first said and The next Vice-president of The United States …

  20. A bachelor’s in sociology? Wasn’t in my class…and a Master’s in Communication? Really?
He seems nervous and paranoid – not a good combination. But Tim’s right. If this is a Democrat the right-wing media go nuts…and if he’s a Black Democrat? I don’t want to think about it…

  21. I love the complete disconnect between affect and content — the screaming, stomping, pacing, snarling behavior is totally unrelated to the recitation of banal resume points. But as he says, he will not apologize for his “tone.” After all, this is the STARK COUNTY TREASURER’S OFFICE!! The future of Our White Nation hangs in the balance!
